Stage 2 of 3: Strategy

Decide what to invest in, and how to buy it.

We turn audit findings into a financially justified roadmap, then independently manage the route to implementation: supplier selection, contracting and construction oversight.

We don’t sell equipment, so the best option can be a small one.

What the model shows: efficiency pays back first, and solar with a battery returns the most by year 10. The right answer depends on your horizon, capital and appetite for risk. Simplified cash flows, for illustration only.

The cheapest quote isn’t always the best investment.

Solar, batteries, efficiency upgrades and grid alternatives answer different questions. Each has its own cost, return and risk, and the ranking changes with your tariff, your load and how long you will hold the asset.

We model your options on your own data, so you choose on cost, risk and return rather than on whichever proposal arrived first.

How we build the business case

The options we evaluate.

Solar PV

Rooftop, ground-mount and carport systems sized to your load, tariff and available space.

Battery storage and hybrid systems

Sizing, dispatch and the case for storage, including backup value where reliability matters.

Grid, embedded generation and wheeled energy

Supply arrangements beyond the standard connection, where regulation and your utility allow.

Efficiency upgrades

Lighting, HVAC, compressed air and process improvements, tested against generation options.

Equipment and technology selection

Technology matched to your site, your reliability needs and your maintenance capability.

Energy master plans and roadmaps

A phased plan across sites and years, so each investment builds on the last.

How we build the business case.

Payback and IRR

Simple payback for quick screening. IRR and net present value to compare options with different lifetimes.

Scenario modelling

Tariff escalation, degradation, load growth and downtime tested together, so you see a range rather than one number.

Funding options

Cash, debt, lease or third-party ownership, compared on the total cost to you.

Contract terms

Technical and commercial terms reviewed so the business case survives into the contract.

From roadmap to commissioned system.

  1. 01
    Procurement

    Specify

We write the technical specification and the evaluation criteria before any supplier sees them.

  2. 02
    Procurement

    Tender

We run an independent tender and invite qualified suppliers and EPC contractors to bid.

  3. 03
    Procurement

    Evaluate

We compare bids on the same technical and financial criteria and recommend a winner, with reasons.

  4. 04
    Contracting

    Contract

We support negotiation and funder engagement, so risk sits where it should.

  5. 05
    Delivery

    Oversee

We oversee construction and commissioning, so what is built matches what was specified and paid for.

Already have a contractor? We can step in at any point to review the business case or oversee delivery.

A roadmap ready for a board or a funder.

The deliverable is a decision-ready document and a model your team can keep using. We hand over the assumptions along with the answers.

If the best decision is to wait, the roadmap says so and says when to look again.

Why independent procurement matters.

When a bidder writes the specification, it is hard for anyone else to compete. We separate the two: we write the specification, run the process and have no equipment to sell.

Where a DLX Africa company, such as Solarpro, is a suitable bidder, it competes on the same criteria as everyone else. We disclose the relationship before you see the evaluation, and advice and supply stay in separate contracts.

Read our independence commitments

Is strategy the right place to start?

You’ve been quoted for solar and can’t judge it.

We test the proposal against your load and tariff and compare it with the alternatives.

Your audit found opportunities and you need a decision-ready case.

We turn findings into ranked options with financial scenarios.

A board, lender or investor wants a bankable business case.

We build and document the assumptions so they stand up to scrutiny.

A contractor is already delivering and you want an independent check.

We review the business case and oversee delivery without taking over the contract.

How we charge

Paid assessment

Energy strategy engagements are scoped and fee-based, so your advice is paid for by you, not by suppliers.

Fixed fee or milestones

Project advisory is priced as a fixed fee or against agreed milestones.

Agreed delivery fee

Procurement management and construction oversight are charged as an agreed project fee or a monthly fee.

Common questions

Do I need an EnergyPlus audit first?

No. We can build the strategy from your bills and data. An audit gives better inputs, so we’ll tell you if the baseline is too thin to support an investment decision.

Will you recommend DLX Africa companies as suppliers?

Only when they are the best fit, and we tell you about the relationship first. Every bidder is compared on the same criteria, and advice and supply are separate contracts.

Can you help if I’ve already chosen a contractor?

Yes. We can review the business case and oversee delivery of a project another contractor is building.

Can you arrange financing?

We support financing options, funder engagement and contract review. Financing and investment support is advisory work, subject to applicable rules. Where a DLX Africa company such as NextCap could be a financing partner, we disclose it and compare it with other funders.

What if the numbers don’t stack up?

Then we say so. A business case that doesn’t justify the investment is a useful result, and it costs far less to learn that before the project is built.
